Tyler Myers Suspended Three Games For Hit On Gomez

Just as the playoff race is heating up, the Buffalo Sabres got some unfortunate news: star defenseman Tyler Myers has been suspended for three games for his hit on Scott Gomez of the Montreal Canadiens.

The fact that Gomez was injured on the play and that Myers was a first-time offender were both taken into account by the league office, but in the end, Myers suspend-able offense was that he did not do anything to avoid or minimize contact with Gomez, despite seeing nothing but the back of his jersey on approach.

I don’t think you can argue with that logic from the Shanahammer, but I’m sure Sabres fans have some other opinions on both the length of suspension and certain other hits this year by certain other large players of a certain other Northeastern team that did not result in suspension. But it’s cool, we’re not bitter.

The Big Easy will be able to return next Wednesday against – guess who? – the Montreal Canadiens. Until then, with Andrej Sekera still being bugged by pneumonia, look for Brayden McNabb or TJ Brennan to get the call-up as Myers replacement.
