Sabres vs. Jets Recap: Buffalo Gets Outshot, Out-Possessed, Lose 2-1. Sound Familiar?

We’ve Seen This Before

In case you came home late and missed the first period, it’s nothing we haven’t seen before. The Sabres were outshot in the first period 15-4, and basically spent the entire period chasing Winnipeg all around their own zone. Things improved as the game went along, but the first period for this team has been a horrible, horrible twenty minutes of hockey far more often than it should be. What’s the matter coach, not enough smelling salts on the bench before the game starts?

Grigorenko Watch

The kid played fairly well tonight in 15:18 of ice time. He was good in the dot, winning 60% of his faceoffs, and made a few very nice passes, though they ultimately led to nothing. He was still tentative at times, but continues to show the promise that made him such a highly touted prospect. Let’s see the kid get more time as the season winds down.

Enroth Strong Again

The man they call Jhonas put on another strong showing tonight, making 39 saves – one on a penalty shot – and earned first star status. He made a couple of really, really nice saves, including one no-look, turnaround backhand save – check it out here. His emergency relief appearance against the Rangers aside, Enroth is making a strong case that he can be a #1 goalie for this Sabres next season.

Three Stars

1. Jhonas Enroth
2. Antti Miettinen
3. Tyler Ennis
