The Buffalo Sabres have locked up defenseman Rasmus Dahlin, announcing an eight-year contract extension. The extension, which was announced first thing Monday morning, carries an AAV of $11 million, according to the team.
Dahlin’s extension begins with the 2024-25 season. He was slated to become a restricted free agent and has a cap hit of $6 million this season, so the new terms are a nice – and appropriate – raise for a player of his caliber. The 23-year-old has quickly become a “franchise” defenseman after being selected first overall by the Sabres in the 2018 NHL Draft.
Dahlin skated in all 82 games in his rookie season, and has 355 NHL games under his belt now entering his sixth NHL season. Last season, he skated in 78 games and put up a career-high 58 assists and 73 points while averaging 25:48 ice time per game.
