Sabres at Canadiens recap: Sabres win again thanks to the unstoppable Brian Flynn

Zemgus Girgensons is currently leading all NHL players in All-star fan balloting – no really, he is. But after last night’s game, maybe Brian Flynn will get a few more votes.

Flynn tied the game late in the third periiod and was the only man from with team to score in the shootout as the Buffalo Sabres beat the Montreal Canadiens for a second straight time, taking four points from one of the NHL’s best teams in their home-and-home series.

The game itself went along the same lines as so many Sabres wins this year, they were outshot 44-26, but some miraculous goaltending from Jhonas Enroth kept them in it until a flurry of third period goals ties the game at three. At some point they’re going to start losing again, but Enroth’s strong efforts have helped the team now win five of their last six games, and has vaulted them al the way in to 27th place, four points ahead of Columbus.

Zemgus Girgensons opened the scoring in the first period, while Chris Stewart scored a beauty of a third period goal that was reminiscent of the ol’ Mike Grier breakaway.

The Sabres will get a few days off before hosting Tampa Bay this Tuesday.
