It’s time to put the finishing touches on the 2009-2010 season for the Buffalo Sabres. Here is a complete report card of every single player that played any amount of time with the Sabres this season. Introduction: Nathan Paetsch has always been a role player for the Buffalo Sabres and the 2009-10 season was no different. For most of the season, Paetsch was subject to being a healthy scratch and only played a handful of games for the Sabres. At the trade deadline, Paetsch was part of the deal that saw Raffi Torres come to the Sabres.
Voting: On a scale of one to ten, one being the lowest and ten being the highest, grade Nathan Paetsch on his season according to the expectations you had for him. If he met them, give him a five or a six. If he eclipsed them, aim for a seven or beyond. If he failed to meet them, give him a lower number relating to how poorly he missed the target.
Key Stat: Paetsch played 11 games for the Buffalo Sabres in 2009-10. In those games, he scored two points, a goal and an assist. For the Columbus Blue Jackets, he played a total of 10 games with zero points. Its good to see all of his contributions with us.
Thumbs Up: There isn’t much that we can say about Nathan Paetsch this season. For the most part, he was caught in a numbers game with the Sabres being the eighth defensman on the roster and played the role of good soldier in the press box. When he was actually on the ice, he played a sound defensive game against some fairly easier opponents, with the Blue Jackets he is ranked seventh easiest among quality of competition.
Thumbs Down: Paetsch never really found the ice time he needed here in Buffalo as he always was the odd man out on the blue line. Even when he was called into playing the forward position, his services were never really needed here. To be sent out for a player that was essentially less of a factor in Raffi Torres makes the deal even worse for Sabres fans. In hindsight, we might have been better off having Paetsch in the pressbox all season.
