Starting from the minors, the Rochester Americans are still moving forward without their forward Taylor Leier.
For Leier, offseason shoulder surgery continues to be the reason he is on the shelf. As stated by the report, Leier is out indefinitely but will be a welcome addition to the Americans lineup when healthy.
Speaking of offseason surgery, goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen finds himself upgraded to week-to-week.
Luukkonen underwent hip surgery in April and was given a six month recovery timeframe.
Last month, Jason Botterill told media that he hopes Luukkonen can begin playing in Rochester beginning in early November. Luukkonen’s demotion and timeframe upgrade seem to point positively in that direction.
Now, looking at the big club.
Defenseman Zach Bogosian continues to be out indefinitely after undergoing offseason hip surgery in April.
Bogosian’s original time table pegged him at a five-to-six month recovery, yet he still is out indefinitely.
Jason Botterill revealed a few days ago to the collected media that Bogosian had begun skating again but had no further update.
Forward Jimmy Vesey finds his status downgraded to week-to-week after suffering an upper-body injury in last Thursday’s 6-2 loss to the New York Rangers.
No further details were made available on Vesey’s injury.
Defenseman Marco Scandella is said to be out for two-to-three weeks after suffering a lower-body injury, also against the New York Rangers last Thursday.
No further details were made available on Scandella’s injury.
These injury updates are not always bad news, which was the case this morning.
The Buffalo Sabres officially upgraded the status of defenseman Brandon Montour to “day-to-day”.
Montour suffered a hand injury in the final days of training camp and has missed the entire season to this point.
Encouraging news following the injury update is that Montour was back at practice for the first time since suffering the aforementioned hand injury.
Montour was skating with Will Borgen as an extra defensive pair on Sunday morning.
It is currently uncertain when Montour will return but clearly his status is trending upward.
