Friday News & Notes

Well, we made it. This is the last weekend without regular-season NHL hockey. The Sabres have one more preseason game on tap. Regular season action in the league starts Tuesday, with Buffalo kicking things off on Thursday.

With that in mind, a few tidbits of news & notes as of late:

  • The Sabres made several more roster cuts on Thursday as they get closer to finalizing their roster. Brett Murray and Jack Quinn are both heading to Rochester, along with Aaron Dell and defenseman Jimmy Schuldt. Both Dell & Schuldt had to clear waivers in order to be assigned to the AHL.
  • In case you missed it, J-J Peterka is day-to-day./

  • Speaking of the Rochester Americans, they’ll kick off preseason action Friday night with the first of two exhibition games. Friday evening, the Amerks head to Utica to face the Comets (who are now affiliated with the New Jersey Devils, remember) for a 7 p.m. puck drop. Rochester returns home Sunday afternoon for a 3 p.m. matchup with the Syracuse Crunch. Tickets are available for $10.
  • Participating Olympic teams have been required to provide a list of three provisional NHL players who will be included on their roster for the 2022 games. Buffalo Sabres forward Zemgus Girgensons was named to the three-man provisional team for Latvia, while former Sabres defender Andrej Sekera was named by Slovakia./
