Buffalo Sabres Top 25 Under 25: #5 Casey Mittelstadt

The Top 25 Under 25 is a collaboration by members of the Die By The Blade community. It was a combination of six staff writers and over 485 fans that ranked Buffalo Sabres players under the age of 25 as of August 10, 2021. Each participant used their own metric of current ability and production to rank each player.

It honestly feels like Casey Mittelstadt has been with the Sabres organization for a long time. In reality, it’s only been four years – but it’s been a long four years. Before sitting down to write this, I genuinely forgot that he’s still only 22 years old.

Last season was fine for Mittelstadt, all things considered.

He only appeared in 41 games but still managed to finish fourth on the team in scoring. His 10 goals were behind only Sam Reinhart and Victor Olofsson, and overall, 22 points in 41 games was a decent effort & the most productive of his young career to date.

Mittelstadt could very well be one of the Sabres’ best players this season, which is likely more an indictment of the team’s depth and talent than a praise of his skill. There will be a lot of pressure on him, with guys like Reinhart and Eichel gone, to step up and be one of the team’s top centers.
