World Juniors Day 1

Hello gang!

I am NOT an elite prospect guy by any means and I leave the analysis to McGee and others who have much more knowledge than I. However, it is a slow week at work (yeah!) and I decided to 1) watch some hockey, and 2) Post because… there was no post.

I’m hoping by contributing here that all of you smart people who follow prospects can analyze the play of the Sabres prospects and give feedback to those prospects worth looking for in the 2024 draft.

So here goes a very amateur attempt in giving you a highlight of today’s World Juniors. If I can, I’ll post times for upcoming games this week 🙂 This is my little contribution to our wonderful site

Game #1 Czechia vs. Slovakia

Slovakia wins 6 – 2. Significant contribution from Sabre prospect Maxim Strbak who had a goal and an assist. 1 G, 1 A with 5 SOG. He lead team Slovakia in SOG!

Game wasn’t as close as the SOGs indicated as Slovakia held court 34 – 27 but really dominated the game.

Game #2 Finland vs. Canada.

Canada wins 5 – 2.  Savoie did not score or assist on any goal but skated well. He did take a penalty for tripping but did not register anything else. I don’t have the TOI for him but he was on the ice for a good portion of the game, probably over 20 minutes

Game #3 Norway vs. USA.

The boys from the good ole USA won 4 -1.  Goals from Snuggerud, Brindley, and Howard with an assist from Lane Hutson. I think I remember that Hutson is a favorite of McGee (and I could be wrong on that).  Norway only scored a SHG. It looked as if we dominated play.

Game #4 Latvia vs. Sweden.

Sweden wins 6 – 0. Sabre fans will be happy to note that on the first goal, Anton Wahlberg scored with an assist from Noah Ostland. Ostland also recorded another assist later in the game (2nd period).  The Sabre prospects really looked good and skated well.

I hope this little piece is a good update for all of you. I’ll leave the heavy lifting to the more seasoned and smarter analysts in this group but thought this would be a good post to get the dialogue going concerning the World Juniors since this is such a great tournament.

Have fun! Merry Christmas to you all!
