Just Posting this to kind of clear my mind. I (along with just about everyone of you) feel like our beloved Sabres seem to be getting progressively worse. This is an effort to add some grit and help ease our young players minds.
Here is my overall mindset: We can absolutely give up 1st and 2nd round picks. We have a buffet of young talent already in our system or coming shortly to the system. I’m not locked into keeping picks at this point.
Here is who is gone:
Jeff Skinner. Probably near impossible to do given his contract and age. Don’t get me wrong, Skins can score. He is an absolute hot mess on D and if Donnie isn’t going to sit him or address the problem, we have to move him. That also means Terry has to let go
Victor Olofsson. Getting better efforts recently. We have plenty of guys that can sit on the power-play and take one timers. Move him for a bag of pucks if you have to.
Tyson Jost. Have no idea why we re-signed. Maybe get a water bottle or see if he clears waivers and goes to Rochester.
Joker. Inconsistent and is no help to Power who is another hot mess right now.
Here is who I’m going after:
Sean Kuraly: C/LW, CBJ signed at 2.5 through 24-25 season. On the board for hits and has some offensive production. May be available on a struggling Columbus team.
Sammie Blais: LW/RW, STL signed at 1M through 23-24 season. Another body on the hits board that doesn’t get many minutes in STL. Would probably be able to re-sign if it works out.
JJ Moser: D, ARI becomes RFA 23-24. Any solid D man would do. Just picked this kid ’cause he is young (23) and is currently operating in the + at ARI. Might be available as Arizona always seems to negotitate.
NEW LINES: When injuries heal up, of course. However, you know have some grit, scoring power and versatility in your lineup.
1st Benson/Peterka Thompson Tuch
2nd Mitts/Kuraly Cozens Kuraly/Peterka
3rd Mitts/Kuraly Krebs Kulich (Called Up)
4th Blaise Girgs Okposo
Rosen can bounce in and out of lineup
1st Dahlin Sammie
2nd Moser R. Johnson (what a find)
3rd Power E. Johnson
Clifton floats as 7th
I am ok with the Goalies at this point. Levi should have been left a Rochester at the beginning of the season. Ride UPL as 1 and Comrie as 2. I would def try to set something up to slowly bring Levi into the mix in the next 2-3 years.
