Bogosian clears waivers and assigned to the Amerks

After being waived yesterday by the Buffalo Sabres, Zach Bogosian cleared waivers today at noon. It was expected that the 29-year-old would go unclaimed with his contract and performance this season.

After clearing waivers the team announced that they assigned him to the Rochester Amerks of the AHL. Now, we’ll wait and see if the veteran defender reports to the Amerks for his assignment.

If Bogosian doesn’t report the Sabres could opt to suspend him and then explore their options from that point.

Assigning him to the Amerks will save the Sabres $1.075 million on the salary cap. The remainder of his salary will remain on the books.

They will likely still try to work out a trade with the trade deadline just over a week away but that chances of them finding a trade partner seems low at this point.

We’ll see how the situation unfolds over the next few days to get an idea where things will go from here between the two sides.
