Sabres recall Gilmour and Hammond

The Buffalo Sabres made two recalls from the Rochester Americans before practice this morning. The two players are defenseman John Gilmour and goaltender Andrew Hammond.

Gilmour played four games with the Sabres earlier this season after making the team out of training camp. The speedy defender has had his struggles in the AHL since being assigned to Amerks. So much so that he found himself ending up as a healthy scratch recently.

With Zach Bogosian’s career with Sabres likely being at end with him being placed on waivers yesterday, Gilmour is likely up to be the new seventh defenseman on the roster. This also means that they plan to leave Lawrence Pilut in the AHL for the time being so he can play games with the Amerks.

Hammond is the interesting recall. Carter Hutton played well in the win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday night and Jonas Johansson is still with the club. We’ll find out if this due to an injury or illness when the Sabres take the ice for practice at 11:30.

The Amerks called up Michael Houser from the Cincinnati Cyclones to back up Ukka-Pekka Luukkonen for the their game tonight in Syracuse against the Crunch.
