Will Borgen out six to eight weeks

The hits just keep on coming for the Buffalo Sabres. The team announced today that defenseman Will Borgen will be out six to eight weeks. He required surgery for a fractured forearm he suffered late in the game against the New Jersey Devils on Saturday afternoon.

The 24-year-old defender was a nice boost to the Sabres blue line and was about to be paired with Rasmus Dahlin. Now, he’ll be out until at least early April.

Their defense group is looking thin right now as Borgen joins Jake McCabe and Rasmus Ristolainen on the injured list. Elliotte Friedman mentioned in 31 Thoughts today that Brandon Montour was available, but they may have to hold onto him now with the recent injuries.

This season has been some of the worst run-on luck for a team that I remember seeing in a long time. We’ll see if Kevyn Adams wants to look for some new bodies on the blue line or will ride it out with his current depth.
