Sabres recall defenseman Matt Tennyson

The Buffalo Sabres announced this morning they’ve recalled defenseman Matt Tennyson from the Rochester Americans of the AHL. To make room on the roster, they placed Marco Scandella on injured reserve.

Tennyson was up with the Sabres to start the season before being sent to the Amerks when the defense group became healthy.

He has one assist in seven games with Rochester this season.

With Scandella already out and Jake McCabe leaving yesterday’s game with an injury, the Sabres needed another body prior to tonights matchup with the Florida Panthers.

This move likely indicates that McCabe will be unavailable tonight. Meaning 22-year-old defenseman Lawrence Pilut will make his NHL debut for the Sabres. Pilut has had a great start to the season with Amerks and will likely finally get an opportunity to show his ability at the NHL level.

So, don’t panic, Tennyson was likely recalled to serve as the extra defenseman in case something happens in warmups.
