Usually this day comes with little fanfare, especially when it’s this early in the spring, because it means the Buffalo Sabres did not make the postseason. Fans tend to not be interested in what the players have to say, after all, we are not in the playoffs, so any number of excuses tend to feel exactly like that, excuses.
However, with the somewhat shock news yesterday that the Sabres decided to cut ties with head coach Don Granato barely 12 hours after the final horn sounded on Buffalo’s ultimately underwhelming season, today’s locker cleanout and subsequent media availability had a lot more interest.
Here’s a pick of the bunch of interviews from the day at KeyBank Center.
“You control what you can control” – Jeff Skinner
“We have an opportunity” – Alex Tuch
“We have to be better” – Rasmus Dahlin
“Embrace the pressure” – Jordan Greenway
“It was a shock” – Henri Jokiharju
“We have to hold ourselves accountable” – Tage Thompson
“I’m excited for what’s to come” – Connor Clifton
More media availabilities were put online by the Sabres on Thursday, see below.
“Anything can happen” – Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen
“The most motivated I’ve ever been” – Dylan Cozens
“Buffalo is home” – Peyton Krebs
“I want to be part of the solution” – Bowen Byram
“We have an unbelievable group” – JJ Peterka
“Stronger and more explosive” – Owen Power
So who do you think spoke well? Whose words struck a chord with how you’re feeling about how the season ended?
