A Buffalo Sabres Halloween

In celebration of Halloween, and since they have nothing else to do, the Buffalo Sabres decided to hold a Halloween costume contest, and shockingly, they only invited reporters from Die By The Blade to cover the event. Everyone was there and in full costume, from owner Terry Pegula to announcer Rick Jeanneret. Here’s the in-depth, hard-hitting report on what everyone was dressed as.

Ryan Miller as Captain America. Miller has become an All-American hero thanks to his efforts to lead the stars and stripes during the 2010 Olympics. It’s just too bad for his costume that he looks more like the pre super-serum version of Cap than the muscled up version.

Thomas Vanek as Two-Face. Vanek is as much of an enigma as the famous Batman villain Two-Face. For half the season, he’s the white knight Harvey Dent, the pure and honest hero that the Sabres need to lead them to the playoffs. For the other half of the season he’s the villain Two-Face, flipping a coin each night to see whether or not he’s going to show up and perform.

Rick Jeanneret as Rodney Dangerfield. Aside from being a perfect look-alike costume, going as Dangerfield allowed Jeanneret to stink the place up all night while asking “Whoa, somebody step on a duck?

Gary Bettman and Donald Fehr as Harry and Lloyd from Dumb & Dumber. Zing.

Patrick Kaleta as Mr. Glass the movie Unbreakable. Just like Mr. Glass, Kaleta just can’t seem to stay healthy. His bones are as brittle as twigs, and he spends at least half the season recovering from the various bumps and bruises that his reckless playing style inflicts upon him. The other players were slightly put-off by his use of blackface for the costume, though.

Drew Stafford as a giant mouse. We all know how much Stafford loves his furries.

Terry Pegula as Scrooge McDuck. I imagine Terry Pegula dives into his giant pool full of money at least twice per day. I also imagine that he goes around and solves hockey-related mysteries with his family every week. Puck Tales! Woo-oo!

Lindy Ruff as Jason Voorhees. No matter how many times you try to get rid of him, he keeps coming back. And every iteration is slightly worse than the last.

That’s my report, folks. What other costumes do you think would be perfect for Sabres Halloween party? Let us know in the comments, and have a safe and happy Halloween.
