The Buffalo Sabres have traded captain Kyle Okposo to the Florida Panthers in exchange for defenseman Calle Själin and a conditional 7th-round draft pick. Per Elliotte Friedman, the pick becomes a 5th-rounder if the Panthers win the Stanley Cup.

Okposo, 35, has 22 points (12-10) in 61 games with the Sabres this season. His NHL career to date has spanned 1,045 games between the Sabres and the New York Islanders, with 614 points total in that stretch. Okposo was drafted by the Islanders with the seventh overall pick in 2006.

Själin is a 24-year-old left-shot defenseman who will almost certainly report to the AHL’s Rochester Americans. Själin was drafted 145th overall in 2017 by the New York Rangers.. He has spent the last two seasons with the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers and has three points (all assists) in 22 games this season.
