The Sabres drop their ninth straight with another 5-2 loss

Score: Penguins 5 | Sabres 2

Shots: PIT 27 | BUF 23

Sabres Goals: Tage Thompson (1) and Victor Olofsson (8)

Penguins Goals: Evgeni Malkin (7), Brandon Tanev (6), Jake Guentzel (PPG) (9), and Anthony Angello (1), Bryan Rust (ENG) (9)

Minus – 1 | Nine and counting

The Sabres have now lost their ninth straight as the organization continues to do nothing about it. It’ll be interesting to see how many games this streak reaches. The good news is they play the New Jersey Devils next week Tuesday. They may get back into the win column on that night.

Minus – 2 | Cozens Injured

Injuries also continue to pile up. Dylan Cozens took a big shot from Penguins forward Zach Aston-Reese. It wasn’t an illegal hit, but it’s probably one that wasn’t necessary. Cozens was in a tough spot a few feet away from the boards and the puck was gone.

Cozens skated off the ice in discomfort and wasn’t steady on his feet. He didn’t return to the game, so we’ll see what his status is in the coming days.

Minus – 3 | Jonas Johansson Struggles

Not much to say here. We all know that Johnasson is an AHL goalie and tonight was just another example of that. He couldn’t provide the Sabres many saves when they needed it.

Plus – 1 | Olofsson 5v5 Goal

Victor Olofsson finally got on the board at 5 on 5 with a goal. He has struggled at even-strength most of the season, but to put a positive spin on it, the last two games were perhaps two of his better ones.

The Sabres back in action Saturday night against the Penguins again.
