Terry Murray and Dave Barr named Sabres assistant coaches

Dan Bylsma announced Terry Murray and Dave Barr the first two members of his coaching staff at the Sabres‘ pre-draft press conference this morning.

Murray, Tim’s uncle, has served 15 seasons as a head coach in the league between Washington, Philadelphia, Florida and LA. His last NHL job was with the Kings, who fired him during the 2011-12 season, his third in LA. Last season he was the head coach for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the AHL, posting a 33-35-8 record. He has a 499-383-89-41 career record as a head coach.

Barr had been on Pete DeBoer’s New Jersey Devils staff during the now-Sharks head coach’s four year tenure. He was dismissed along with DeBoer in December. He has seven years of NHL assistant experience between New Jersey, Minnesota and Colorado.

The two join goalie coach Arturs Irbe, who is still under contract with the team but not certain to return. Bylsma said today that he has not made a decision regarding Irbe’s status yet.
