Sochi Olympics: USA vs. Canada for all the hockey bragging rights

Today’s Remaining Schedule – Semifinal Round

(2) United States vs. (3) Canada

12:00pm ET – NBCSN – Winner gets to crap on the loser on Twitter for the next four years, also Sweden in the gold medal game

It’s been four years in the making, but we finally get the USA-Canada rematch that everyone either wanted or dreaded, depending on your tolerance of annoying social media.

What we won’t get is a rematch of the key players from Vancouver, namely because Jonathan Quick will be in net instead of Ryan Miller. The US enters this game with a stronger squad than the underdogs who scraped their way into overtime four years ago, but with this game the USA will try to avoid being swept by the Canadians along gender lines, as the US women’s team lost to the Canucks in overtime yesterday.

America’s forwards have been scoring a whole bunch recently, and while Canada’s front lines haven’t exactly lit the world on fire, their defensive corps has been dynamite thus far. As it often does with these two teams, the game will certainly be close down to the end, and could come down to which goaltender makes the last save.

We’d ask you who you’re rooting for, but I think we both know the answer to that.

USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA!

(1) Sweden defeated (4) Finland 2-1

Goals from Loui Eriksson and Erik Karlsson helped Sweden advance to the gold medal game to face for sure the USA. Finland, despite scoring first, couldn’t find the back of the net again as Henrik Lundqvist made 25 saves to help the Swedes advance.

Finland will play probably Canada in the bronze medal game on Sunday.
