Sabres vs. Lightning Recap: Sabres Offense Zapped By Garon

The Buffalo Sabres had a offensive power outage against the Tampa Bay Lightning as they lose their first road game of the season, 3-0. Lightning goaltender Mathieu Garon was the first star of the game as he made all 21 saves in his second start of the season for the Lightning. Martin St. Louis, Pavel Kubina, and Victor Hedman each scored for the Lightning. The Lightning essentially locked down the Sabres and limited the Sabres scoring chancesto just 10 in the game.

The Sabres offense was thrown for a loop when Tyler Ennis ran into the net feet first in the first few minutes of the first period. Ennis tried to come back, but just could not get comfortable and did not return to the game. This meant that the Sabres were down to 11 forwards. While not a legitimate excuse for the lack of offense, it did contribute to changes in the offense which the players did acknowledge after the game

“Enner is a huge part of our team, and the lines got a little messed up,” Adam said. “That’s no excuse. A game like that where it’s 1-0 going into the third period is a great test for us, and it’s a game that we’ve got to find a way to win.”

The Sabres are going to have to figure something out because they will have to face the Lightning at home on Tuesday night. With the way that both Garon and Roloson have played for the Lightning this season, I would expect Garon to get the start again on Tuesday night.
