The Sabres proved that they were quickly over the Nashville meltdown with a gritty 2-0 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday night. Nathan Gerbe was the star of the night, scoring the only two goals of the night. His first came in the second period off a redirection in front of the net. The second goal was the shift of the season for Gerbe though, as he stripped the puck, then stole the puck from the Montreal defenseman and put the puck in the empty net.
Slightly overshadowed by the Gerbe shift is Ryan Miller‘s shutout. He made all 31 saves the Canadiens threw at him and he looked focused the entire game. If the Nashville game was a wake up call of sorts, then the team will be in better shape because he looked much better than he did against Nashville. For the Canadiens, Carey Price only allowed the one goal in the second period and made 22 saves.
The Sabres powerplay looked pretty bad against the Canadiens, going 0-5 on the night. The Canadiens are the 10th ranked penalty kill in the league and looked impressive limiting the Sabres chances that they could create on the man advantage.
The Sabres will have two days off before they face the Florida Panthers on Friday night and the New Jersey Devils on Saturday night. Both games will be at HSBC Arena. If you missed the game, here are the highlights:
