The Sabres made their first trade of the season, sending Luke Adam to Columbus in exchange for forward Jerry D’Amigo. The newest Sabre has yet to play a game with the Blue Jackets this season, spending the entire time with the Springfield Falcons of the AHL. He has three goals and four assists in 28 games.
D’Amigo was acquired by the Blue Jackets this summer from the Maple Leafs for Matt Frattin. Originally a sixth round pick of Toronto’s, D’Amigo played in the organization from 2010 to 2014. He has played in 22 NHL games, scoring one goal and two assists. Last season he scored 20 goals and 13 assists in 51 games with the Marlies.
The 23-year-old winger played for the United States in the World Junior Tournament in 2010 and 2011, winning a gold and bronze medal. In the 2010 tournament he scored six goals and six assists in seven games. He’s a local boy as well, hailing from Binghamton.
Adam was the Sabres second round pick in 2008, and has shown promise in his time in the organization. His best moments came in the 2011-2012 season, when he scored ten goals and ten assists in 52 games. However, his stints with the big club since have been rather short and uneventful. Although he continued to produce in Rochester, he began to show signs that he’d be nothing more than a solid AHL scorer. As time went along, he began to fit more and more into the Mark Mancari mold.
Adam’s best AHL season was with the Portland Pirates in 2010-11, when he scored 29 goals and 33 assists in 57 games. Last season he averaged a point a game in Rochester, scoring 29 goals and 20 assists in 59 games.
D’Amigo will be with the Americans for their morning skate tomorrow according to the team’s Twitter account. The Americans have struggled as of late, possibly leading to this shakeup from the GM.
