Sabres return Brendan Guhle to Prince Albert

The Sabres impressive second-round pick this year will not be getting a nine-game tryout after all. The Prince Albert Raiders announced this morning that the Sabres have returned Brendan Guhle to juniors. He hasn’t played in the regular season, held out with injury.

The Raiders say that Guhle will make his season debut tonight against the Portland Winterhawks. Last season he had five goals and 27 assists in 72 WHL games.

Guhle turned heads with his play in the preseason (2 assists), earning him much more playing time than the team’s other defensemen. He’s still very young and there’s no need to rush him, but his play made many believe he would get a shot with the team this season.

He was selected with the 51st pick in the 2015 draft by the Sabres, the first of four defensemen taken by the Sabres. He signed a three-year entry level deal this off-season.
