Sabres Prospects Stock Up/Stock Down – October 26, 2011

It is time for our weekly look at the Buffalo Sabres prospects and how they fared last week. It is sometimes difficult to get a good handle on how these guys are actually playing because much of the this is based on statistics and nothing else. Still we can usually get a good grasp on who is playing well and who is not.

This was not a banner week for a large portion of the Sabres prospects, while others continued their upward trend. It has been amazing to follow what Jerome Gauthier-Leduc has been able to accomplish this season. I find myself becoming very intrigued by this young man and I have tried to find feeds of his games to be able to watch just how dominant he has been in the “Q”.

Follow the jump to see how all the Sabres prospects did this week.

Player -Team Draft Position Status Description
Kevin Sundher – WHL 44 Dash_medium (3GP 1G-3A-4P, -2) Sundher did not have a bad week but his minus-2 performance an 8-1 loss to the Vancouver Giants kept him from trending up this week. He started an upward trend after that with two assists in a 3-2 win over Kelowna and a goal and an assist in a 5-4 win against the Tri-City Americans.
Jerome Gauthier-Leduc – QMJHL 68

Up_medium

(3GP 2G-3A-5P, +6) Gauthier-Leduc had an eight game goal scoring streak snapped in a 4-2 win against Rouyn-Noranda. He continues his assault on the QMJHL as he had five points in only three games.
Dan Catenacci – OHL 77 Down_medium (3GP 0G-2A-2P, -3)Catenacci is still averaging over a point per game for Owen Sound but he managed only a pair of assists this week to go along with a minus-3 rating.
Steven Shipley – OHL 98 Dash_medium Did not play – an injury has Shipley on the shelf and unable to play last week.
Cedrick Henley – QMJHL 173

Up_medium

(4GP 4G-1A-5P) Henley started to heat up this week with four goals in three games before being held off the scoresheet in his fourth game of the week. Henley had not scored before his four goals in three games outburst this week.
Mark Pysyk – WHL 23 Dash_medium (2GP 0G-0A-0P, E) Another week with nothing to report on Pysyk. I am a bit disappointed because we are hoping for a lot out Pysyk and it has been difficult to measure his progression.
Joel Armia – SM Liiga 16 Dash_medium (3GP 1G-0A-1P) Armia scored his second goal of the season this past week.
Gregg Sutch – OHL 143 Dash_medium (2GP 0G-1A-1P, -1) A very uneventful week for Sutch. He continues to be another face in the crowd.
Justin Jokinen – WCHA 101 Down_medium (2GP 0G-1A-1P, -4)It was a difficult week for Jokinen against Denver this past weekend. He assisted on a goal Friday but had a three game point streak snapped on Saturday evening. He was also a minus-4 for the Mavericks who dropped a pair to Denver.
Alex Lepowski – OHL 137 Dash_medium (Did not Play) An injury has kept Lepowski out of the lineup.
Brad Navin – WCHA 197 Down_medium (2GP 0G-0A-0P, -2) Navin was a minus-2 with no points for the Badgers.
Christian Iasackson – WCHA 203 Dash_medium (1GP 0G-0A-0P, -1)Isackson returned to the lineup for the Golden Gophers on Saturday but he finished a minus-1 with no points.
Drew Mackenzie – HE 209 Down_medium (2GP 0G-0A-0P, -3) Vermont began their season with a 6-0 shutout loss to Minnesota on Friday night. Mackenzie was a minus-3 for Vermont in that loss.
Colin Jacobs – WHL 107 Dash_medium (Did not Play)
Mark Adams – HE 134 Dash_medium (Did not Play)
Nathan Lieuwen – WHL 167

Up_medium

(2GP, 2-0-0, 1.44GAA .948 sv%)Lieuwen has been dominant in the WHL this season. He continues to prove that he is best goalie prospect in the Sabres pipeline. It will be interesting to see what happens with him when he makes the jump later this season or next season.
Brad Eidsness – WCHA 139 Down_medium (1GP, 0-1-0, 9.20GAA .778 sv%) This was a forgettable weekend for Brad Eidsness. He last only 26 minutes before he was pulled after allowing four goals on only 14 shots. It will be interesting to see if Eidsness gets a chance to play this weekend.
Connor Knapp – CCHA 164 Dash_medium (1GP, 0-1-0, 2.03GAA .909 sv%) Knapp allowed only two goals in his only start this weekend but Miami was shutout 2-0 giving him the loss.
