Recap: Eichel powers Sabres to 4-1 win over Stars

Fans of the Buffalo Sabres will never say no to a win over the Dallas Stars, and today was no exception, as the Sabres earned a hard-fought 4-1 victory over the Stars.

The catalyst for this game was Jack Eichel, who powered the Sabres offense all afternoon. He had a career-high ten shots, won 68% of his faceoffs, and scored both a power play and an empty net goal to go along with a number of typically impressive Eichel passes in the 4-1 win.

The game got off to a fast start thank to the returning Tyler Ennis, who scored just 19 seconds in to the game in his first game of 2017. Ennis’ first of the year would be followed by Jake McCabe, who scored his first of the season ten minutes later on the power play. Radek Faksa would score later in the period to end the first at 2-1.

We’ve seen the Sabres fail to capitalize on good starts before, so the second period was a big one for Buffalo. Unlike their previous contests, the only goal scored was by Buffalo, on a big power play goal by Eichel, of of feeds from Ristolainen and Reinhart, who both continue their impressive point streaks.

The third period was a bit more constrained than the previous two, but the lone goal went yet again to the Sabres, thank to a slick Eichel empty-netter, giving him his 10th goal in 22 games this season.

For a team that has struggled to play a full 60 minutes, today was a fantastic effort in all three periods. They were helped by the fact that Dallas looked lost at times and by a victorious challenge that called back a goal, but the Sabres gave a strong effort all game long.

A win is nice, but the team has to get right back on the horse tomorrow night against the Maple Leafs.

Eichel’s goal went bottom shelf, and the RJ Cam should have used this call.
