Player Report Card: Sam Reinhart

Total Season Stats: 69 GP | 22 G | 28 A | 50 PTS

Age: 24

Contract Status: RFA

Sam Reinhart is one of those players that Sabres fans have come to expect a lot from, and this season was no difference – and no disappointment, even on a struggling Buffalo team.

At the time of the NHL season pause, Reinhart was one of just four Sabres players to have appeared in all 69 games, joining teammates Henri Jokiharju, Rasmus Ristolainen and Zemgus Girgensons. Reinhart’s 0.72 points/game average is third-best on the Sabres, behind perhaps the only two players you’d expect: Jack Eichel and Victor Olofsson.

Reinhart saw, on average, the most ice time of his career, and was among the top Sabres performers this year in many categories. What a joy it was to see him on the top line with Jeff Skinner and Eichel. Reinhart has gotten better, year after year, and it should only go up from here.

With 50 points, Reinhart is third among all 2020 RFA forwards, behind only Mathew Barzal and Ryan Strome. Even if you expand the parameter to all 2020 RFA and UFA forwards, Reinhart is fifth. His cap hit was $3.65 million, but if projections are accurate, he could be in for quite the raise in his new contract. Evolving Hockey has projected Reinhart’s contract as an eight-year term with a predicted cap hit of $9.012 million.
