Player Report Card: Lawrence Pilut

Total Season Stats: 33 GP | 1 G | 5 A | 6 PTS

Age: 23

Contract Status: Under contract until 2020-21 (RFA)

Lawrence Pilut moved over to North America with some fanfare. Many Sabres fans were able to take a look Pilut’s international successes and get themselves quite hype about what might be coming to the lineup in Buffalo.

Pilut’s transition over to the National Hockey League was somewhat complicated.

While Pilut tore the cover off the puck in Rochester with how quick he adapted and succeeded against somewhat lesser talent, he was not able to crack the lineup in Buffalo.

Once Pilut made it to Buffalo, the growing pains were evident but so were the flashes of brilliance.

Pilut was expected to have those aforementioned growing pains with this being his first professional season in North America but with his professional career overseas, he was able to adjust much quicker.

It is clear after this season that Pilut is no longer destined for the American Hockey League.

His game fits what the Sabres have been trying to push – smart hockey players who play an upbeat style of hockey.

Pilut will stick around, as made evident by his development this season but the growing pains might still be there.

If we learned one thing this past season about Pilut, it is that he has the talent to make an impact at the National Hockey League level.
