NHL Playoffs Open Thread 5/4/16 – 5/6/16

We’re getting deep into the second round of the NHL Playoffs and the games are starting to mean more by the day.

Here’s a preview of the upcoming games for Wednesday – Friday.

Wed 5/4/16

Washington Capitals at Pittsburgh Penguins, 8pm EST (NBCSN, CBC, TVAS)

The Pens are leading the series 2-1 and have an opportunity at home to put some daylight between them and the Caps. Washington for their part have been underwhelming in this series so far after leading the League for most of the regular season. Expect another explosive showdown with plenty of hitting, most of it borderline legal.

Thu 5/5/16

Dallas Stars at St. Louis Blues, 8pm EST (NBCSN, CBC, TVAS)

Another upset potentially in the making as the Blues are leading the high-flying Stars 2-1 after beating the living daylights out of Dallas yesterday. The 6-1 win for Ken Hitchcock doesn’t quite make up for the 8-2 spanking from Lindy Ruff a decade ago, but was still satisfying. Having beaten the Blackhawks, are the Blues now rolling?

San Jose Sharks at Nashville Predators, 9pm EST (CNBC, SN, TVAS2)

The Sharks have edged ahead 2-1 in a series where the home side has won every game so far. The Predators have had some trouble defending San Jose’s potent offense, and the balance of power in this series will come down to that.

Fri 5/6/16

Tampa Bay Lightning at New York Islanders, 7pm EST (NBCSN, CBC, TVAS)

If wide-open, offense-filled hockey is your thing, then this series is for you. It’s been goals galore so far as the Bolts lead 2-1. There’s been 22 goals in 3 games, and no sign that the defense on either side are going to tighten up either.
