Jake McCabe Will Miss the Remainder of the Season With Shoulder Surgery

The Buffalo Sabres announced this afternoon that defenseman Jake McCabe will undergo shoulder surgery and miss the remainder of the season. The 24-year-old has been out since February 6 after undergoing thumb surgery.

This shoulder injury appears to be a lingering issue that he’s dealt with all season and with the team in the position they’re in. The decision was made to get the issue corrected now so McCabe could be a full go for next season. Recovery time will be between four to six months.

The former second-round pick will end the season with three goals and 12 points in 53 games. He’ll head into next season in the final year of his contract and is set to become a restricted free agent in July of 2019.

Here are comments for Sabres General Manager Jason Botterill from the press release:

“Jake has been progressing well in his recovery from his previous injury, but we decided that this was a good opportunity to take care of a problem that he has been dealing with for a while,” Sabres General Manager Jason Botterill said. “Jake will have time to fully recover before the beginning of the 2018-19 season.”
