It’s the Sabres’ ‘Hockey Fights Cancer’ night

Cancer is unfortunately prevalent in our modern society, and just about everyone either has directly come into contact with it, or knows someone who has.

Tonight marks a special date on the Buffalo Sabres schedule – KeyBank Center hosts ‘Hockey Fights Cancer’ night as part of the broader initiative across the NHL.

Hockey Fights Cancer™ is an initiative founded in December 1998 by the National Hockey League and the National Hockey League Players’ Association to raise money and awareness for hockey’s most important fight. The Hockey Fights Cancer initiative is supported by the National Hockey League Foundation, the NHL Foundation, players, NHL Member Clubs, NHL Alumni, the NHL Officials’ Association, Professional Hockey Trainers and Equipment Managers, corporate marketing partners, broadcast partners and fans throughout North America. To date, the Hockey Fights Cancer programs of the National Hockey League Foundation (in the US) and the NHL Foundation (in Canada), along with NHL supporters and fans, have donated more than $16 million to support the cancer programs of national and local cancer research institutions, children’s hospitals, player charities and local charities.

Join the hockey family in their most important fight by donating today.

The Sabres organization has been sharing the love as players talk about who they are fighting for –

There will be a special pre-game tonight with autographed hats for sale, a Basket Raffle in the 100 Level and special commemorative rally towels.

Buffalo Sabres ‘Hockey Fights Cancer’ t-shirts are available at The Sabres Store powered by Reebok, Roswell Park Cancer Institute and Shop.OneBuffalo.com. The lavender warmup jerseys the players wear tonight will be auctioned off after the game tonight on Buffalo Sabres NHL Auctions.

Many of us here on Die By The Blade have had close contact with cancer in its many forms, be it ourselves, family, friends or fellow fans. Today, let us take a moment to share our stories to commemorate those we love who have lost the fight, and the bravery of those who continue to fight.

Tell us in the comments below who you are fighting for, and/or if you are a survivor. We acknowledge that for many this might be a private matter and if you wouldn’t like to share. However, and this is almost needless to say, please be respectful of those who do chose to tell their stories below by being mindful and sensitive in your comments.

Thank you, and Go Sabres!
