Game Day Preview: Buffalo Sabres vs. Toronto Maple Leafs

The Sabres life support is slowly starting to wane as they now have to win their last three games and still need help to get into the playoffs.  Tonight they face a Maple Leaf team that has been fairly inconsistent as they head toward the Tavares Cup.

The Sabres offense hit another brick wall against the much tougher Detroit Red Wings.  The Sabres had control of the game but lost their swagger and fire when the Red Wings scored first.  From then on, the game was basically over as the Red Wings scored three more times while the Sabres could only find the back of the net once.

The Sabres are probably going to ride with Miller unless their playoff hopes are officially dashed.  Miller gives them the best chance to win any game but the offense itself needs to find a way to hit the back of the net, scoring two goals or less in three of their last five games.

The Leafs are just trying to finish their season and will be led by Curtis Joseph again.  CuJo was in net for the Leafs the last time these two teams met and was shelled for 5 goals.  The Sabres have won their last four against the Leafs, only losing once to them this season on December 12.

Probably the most important part to this game is the fact that ex-Sabre Brad May will play his 1,000th career game tonight.  May played 425 games with the Sabres before being traded in 1997.  Since then, May has played for five different teams.  Coach Ron Wilson sat May out of last night’s game just so that he could be able to play his 1,000th game against his old mates.

Game time is 7:00pm at the Air Canada Center.
