Evander Kane ahead of schedule, could play this week

Evander Kane is a bit ahead of schedule with his knee injury, even telling the Buffalo News that he could play today if he and the team wasn’t being cautious. He won’t be playing tonight against Dallas, but told the Buffalo News he’ll be back soon.

“I feel like I could play today but they’re being cautious and I have to listen to them so hopefully we’ll be back on that trip,” Kane told the News.

He was on the ice for the team’s morning skate today and plans to travel with the team.

Kane’s injury initially came with a 4-6 week timetable. He’s been out since suffering the MCL injury against New Jersey on Oct. 24, less than four weeks ago. He cited his good mindset for his quick return, saying that when he first heard the time frame he told himself it would only be two or three weeks.

Kane scored a goal and two assists in eight games before the injury. Despite the low point production, he was playing well. With Zach Bogosian’s return today and the Kane news, Robin Lehner and Mike Weber could soon be the Sabres‘ only long-term injuries.
