Sabres will play in Sweden next season

The NHL announced today that the Buffalo Sabres will be part of the NHL Global Series next season. They’ll play two games in Stockholm, Sweden.

They’ll play two games against the Tampa Bay Lightning on November 8th and 9th.

This will be the Sabres first games overseas since 2011 when they opened their season in Helsinki, Finland and Berlin, Germany with two games. They won’t both games against the Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks.

The Sabres and Lightning will feature two big Swedish stars on the blue line. Victor Hedman for the Lightning and Rasmus Dahlin for the Sabres.

It should be a nice change of pace early next season and be a good atmosphere for the two games in a hockey country like Sweden.

The addition of Dahlin made this an obvious choice for some time when the NHL unveiled plans to return to Europe next season.

The Chicago Blackhawks and Philadelphia Flyers will also go overseas next season. They’ll play games in Germany, Switzerland, and Czech Republic.
