Remi Elie clears waivers

Update: Elliotte Friedman reports that Remi Elie has cleared waivers. He’ll now likely report to the Rochester Amerks of the AHL.

After their 7-3 defeat at the hands of the Chicago Blackhawks last night, the Buffalo Sabres made a roster move before practice this morning. They announced they’ve placed forward Remi Elie on waivers.

The 23-year-old winger was claimed from the Dallas Stars just prior to opening night back in October. Elie has played in 16 games and recorded one assist so far this season with the Sabres.

This move will open a roster spot and it’ll be interesting to see what the Sabres do next. They could use the roster spot to call up a forward like C.J. Smith, Scott Wilson, or Victor Olofsson from the Rochester Amerks. It could also be a sign another move is on the way or it could mean nothing.

Some other important news from practice this morning is that forward Johan Larsson is not on the ice and neither is goaltender Carter Hutton.

We’ll see what else Jason Botterill has up his sleeve for his sinking hockey club.
