Tyler Ennis undergoes groin surgery, will miss several weeks

The string of early-season injuries suffered by the Buffalo Sabres just continues to grow, as the team announced today that Tyler Ennis has undergone groin surgery and will miss “several weeks”.

Add Ennis to the list of Sabres players who have missed time recently, a list that includes Jack Eichel, Ryan O’Reilly, Zach Bogosian, Nicholas Deslauriers, and Evander Kane. While some are disappointed with the Sabres starting the season hovering around .500 winning percentage, the names on that list above (minus D-Lo, sorry kid) are supposed to be some of the team’s biggest contributors.

Instead, most of them have only contributed to the consumption of snacks in the press box so far this year.

While the loss of Ennis will hurt, the 27-year old has struggled to get his game back on track, at least in terms of production. While there have been nights where he uses his quick feet and hands to control possession, he has just two points, a goal and an assist, in 12 games this season, and is a team-worst -6.

An injury is never a good thing, but if there’s any silver lining, this time off could give Ennis some space to regroup, reassess, and come back to be the player we all hope he still can be.
