Buffalo Sabres Take The First Preseason Game Of The Season

The one established line from last season that the Sabres rolled out in this preseason game was the one line that did all the damage for the Sabres. Paul Gaustad, Patrick Kaleta, and Nathan Gerbe each scored in the game and was the main line for the Sabres during the whole game. Gaustad scored the first Sabres goal within the first minute of the third period to tie the game at one. Gerbe scored the game winner three minutes later and Kaleta iced the game with an empty net goal.

The other veteran line for the Sabres saw Ville Leino centering Tyler Ennis and Drew Stafford. While that line didn’t register on the scoresheet at all, they did play an average of 18 minutes in the game and looked relatively solid for the first time playing together.

Luke Adam, Marcus Foligno, and Zack Kassian was the featured prospect line for the Sabres and was the forward line on the ice for the lone Hurricanes goal scored by Brandon Sutter.

Jhonas Enroth played the second half of the game in net and looked like he was in midseason form as he made a spectacular save on Jamie McBain in the third period. He made 11 saves in 30 minutes of work while Drew MacIntyre started the game and allowed one goal on 9 shots in the first half of the game. For Carolina, Brian Boucher started and pitched a shutout in the first half of the game with 14 saves. Justin Peters played the final period and allowed two goals on 12 shots.

The Sabres will play again on Wednesday night against the Montreal Canadiens. That game will be radio only. If you missed the stream of the game, the Sabres have your highlights below:
