Sabres sign Riley Sheahan to a one year deal

Riley Sheahan entered Buffalo Sabres training camp last week on a professional try-out contract. One week later, he inked a new deal with the team.

The Sabres and Sheahan agreed to a one year contract worth $700k.

He has looked good in camp and the team may have had the desire to get a contract done eventually. However, the season-ending injury to Zemgus Girgensons made it a priority for them.

They’ll lean on Sheahan to take on some of the role that Girgensons would have played in the Sabres lineup. Especially on the penalty kill where the Sabres will miss Girgensons. The last few days at camp he has been on a line with Curtis Lazar and Tage Thompson.

The Sabres are back on the ice for practice this morning as the prep for their final team scrimmage tomorrow night.

The Washington Capitals are in town to open the season six days from today.
