Sabres sign Justin Falk to one-year extension

The Buffalo Sabres announced today that they’ve re-signed defenseman Justin Falk to a one-year contract extension.

Falk, who was signed to provide organizational depth in Rochester, has spent the majority of the season in Buffalo thanks to the litany of injuries the Sabres have suffered along the blue line.

In his 35 games with the big club, Falk has posted four assists in 35 games. His +/- of 0 and his 0 penalty minutes this season are indicative of how little he’s noticed on the ice – not a bad thing for a guy who was supposed to play in the AHL this year.

The Sabres still have much work to do along their blueline before next season, but having Falk available as an injury call-up has been one of the few bright spots for this much-maligned group. For the team’s sake I hope we see him less in Buffalo next season, but it’s nice to see a guy get rewarded after stepping up.

Falk’s one-year, one-way extension is worth $650,000.
