Sabres & Amerks Stats For Charity

When I first joined Die By The Blade, I noticed that former Amerks correspondent Stephanie Delio’s user signature included a brief description about how she was raising money for a local charity based on player stats throughout the season. I thought it was a brilliant idea – and for the past few years I’ve done it too.

My favorite local charity is Lollypop Farm, the Humane Society of Greater Rochester. They do tremendous work for animals in the Rochester region. My wife and I adopted our first cat from them and I love being able to give back to the organization in whatever way I can.

• In 2015-16, stats from the Amerks and Sabres allowed me donate $145.
• In 2016-17 that number rose to $175.
• In 2017-18 it rose again, but barely, to $180.21.
• This Season, I fully expect to donate over $200, and I’ll be disappointed if these teams can’t make that happen./

Each season I change up the stats that generate donations. For 2018-2019 I’ve chosen the following categories:

*New Sabre Points will be a combined total of all points scored by players who played fewer than 10 games with the Sabres last season.

Things are rough out in the real world these days and this is one of a few ways that I help to give back and contribute in a positive manner. I encourage anyone else who has the means to find a way that they too can chip in to help those in need.
