Sabres recall Scott Wedgewood

The Buffalo Sabres announced this morning that they’ve recalled Scott Wedgewood from the Rochester Amerks. Linus Ullmark didn’t practice yesterday due to being sick. Wedgewood will serve as the back tonight behind Carter Hutton when the Sabres host the Boston Bruins.

This is Wedgewood’s second call up this season with the Sabres. Played for the Amerks last night in a 5-1 win over the Toronto Marlies. He has 2.78 goals against average and a .916 save percentage in 20 games in the AHL this season.

The Amerks play again tonight, but with Wedgewood starting last night he would have been the back up tonight anyways.

This will likely be another short stint for the 26-year-old. The Sabes are back in action on Monday against the New York Islanders after tonights game. The assumption would that Ullmark will be healthy enough to back up Hutton.

Unless the Sabres waive someone or place another player on injured reserve; this move eliminates any thought of a call up at forward. They’re now at the 23 player roster limit with Wedgewood.
