Buffalo Sabres Recall Curtis Lazar

The Buffalo Sabres have recalled forward Curtis Lazar, the team announced Sunday evening. Lazar’s recall is likely a move to allow the team to hold an extra forward ahead of their upcoming Western road trip, which begins Wednesday night in Anaheim.

Lazar, 24, signed with the Sabres over the summer. He’s appeared in three games with the AHL’s Rochester Americans so far this season, recording one assist so far.

The center/right-winger was originally drafted by the Ottawa Senators with the 17th overall selection in the 2013 NHL Draft. Between Ottawa and Calgary, Lazar has appeared in 246 NHL games since 2014 and recorded 51 points, including 15 goals.

Last season, Lazar spent most of the year in the AHL with the Stockton Heat. As an alternate captain, he recored 41 points (20-21) in 57 games and also appeared in one NHL game with the Flames.

It’s possible that Lazar could see some action on the Sabres’ upcoming road trip, but also possible that he only remains with the team as an extra forward. Before the road trip, however, the Sabres have one more home game as they host the Dallas Stars for a 3 p.m. matinee on Monday at KeyBank Center.

The road trip will then see the Sabres travel to Anaheim, Los Angeles and San Jose for some late-night action.
