Sabres Recall Brendan Guhle and Kyle Criscuolo

The Buffalo Sabres announced this afternoon they’ve recalled forward Kyle Criscuolo and top defensive prospect Brendan Guhle. The club is dealing with some injuries at the NHL level.

Marco Scandella and Evan Rodrigues are day-to-day with injuries. Although Scandella practiced today and should be able to play tomorrow against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

This is the second call-up for Criscuolo. The 25-year-old had no points in eight games with the Sabres earlier this season. He has 34 points in 50 games for the Rochester Americans of the AHL.

Guhle is the big name in this round of recalls. The 20-year-old is arguably the top prospect in the Sabres system and without a doubt the best prospect on the blue line. He played very well in a short two-game taste earlier this season, registering one assist.

He just returned to the Amerks lineup recently after suffering a lower-body injury. Guhle has 24 points in 46 games in the AHL and has been the club’s best defenseman.

Jason Botterill mentioned in an interview on WGR550 earlier this week that Guhle would likely have been recalled already if it wasn’t for his injury. We’ll see if this a semi-permanent recall for the top prospect or just injury insurance.
