The Buffalo Sabres announced today that the team has re-signed RFA Zemgus Girgensons to a two-year contract worth an average of $1.6 million per year.

With the Girgensons signing, the Sabres have signed all of their remaining restricted free agents, and the roster should be set heading in to training camp next month.
After breaking out in 2014-15 under then-coach Ted Nolan, Girgensons has scored just seven goals in each of the past two seasons while playing in over 70 games each year. At this point, he appears to be a solid bottom-six player with limited upside, and this contract reflects just that.
For the Sabres, this deal is a very low-risk endeavor, while still giving Invader Zem the chance to recapture some of the offensive magic he showed three years ago. However, even if he ends up being a fourth line player and penalty kill specialist, it’s still a solid “show me” contract for Buffalo.
