Sabres Re-sign RFAs Brian Flynn, Nick Crawford

After the big release of the NHL schedule today, the Buffalo Sabres decided to make a little splash of their own by resigning two of their restricted free agents – Brian Flynn and Nick Crawford.

Flynn won the hearts of Sabres fans last season when he came up to Buffalo from Rochester, where he proceeded to play hard and score some goals (we’re really a simple people) and showed good chemistry with line mates Kevin Porter and Steve Ott. Flynn scored six goals and five assists in 26 games for Buffalo, and was one of the Sabres best forwards in controlling play.

Flynn will likely make the team out of camp next season, and thanks to his two year contract, will likely make the team again in 2014.

Crawford was re-signed to a one year deal, and should be a nice addition to the bottom of an Amerks blue line that could end up with some serious talent on it, depending on how the Sabres defensive depth is shuffled after training camp. There’s little chance he’ll see NHL action, barring a catastrophic slew of injuries, but the Amerks roster continues to improve with each re-signing such as this.

There are still some big RFA fish for GM Darcy Regier to snag *cough*Hodgson*cough* but it’s nice to see that progress continues to be made on the Sabres roster as we head further in to the summer.
