Player Report Card: Jack Eichel

Total Season Stats: 77 GP | 28 G | 54 A | 82 PTS

Age: 22

Contract Status: Under contract until 2026-2027 (UFA)

Heading into the season, there were high expectations on Jack Eichel both from a leadership standpoint and a production standpoint. This was Eichels first season as the captain of the Sabres, and his first year under his eight year, $80 million contract.

Eichel did not only meet those expectations, he surpassed them by setting a career high in points, goals and assists this season. His previous season-high in points was 64 during the 2017-18 season. He blew the doors off that total, scoring 18 more points and three more goals.

A point per game player for the Sabres this season, he finished with the most points on the team by a wide margin. The next closest player had 65 points- 17 behind Eichel.

Eichel was often tasked with carrying the Sabres offensively this season. On a line with Sam Reinhart and Jeff Skinner, they were often Buffalo’s best chance to win on a nightly basis.

Eichel’s chemistry with new teammate Skinner was a huge plus this season. Eichel was instrumental in getting Skinner to his 40 goal total and the pair played well together from the start of the season on. Eichel and Skinner both made the NHL All-Star Game this season as well.

Night in and night out Eichel was one of the few Sabres who gave a concerted effort and found a way to create consistent scoring chances.

Moving forward Eichel is a huge part of this team. The team feeds off of Eichel and surrounding him with more players will be a huge key for the success of the team moving forward.

Next season the high expectations will continue for Eichel and he will look to surpass the points total he set this season and get Buffalo back to the playoffs.
