Sabres place three players on waivers

The preseason has come to an end and now head coach Phil Housley looks to trim down to his final 23-man roster. They started the process today by placing three players on waivers for assignment to the Rochester Americans of the AHL.

Justin Bailey, Nicholas Baptiste and Matt Tennyson are the three that showed up on the NHL waiver wire today. We’ll find out at noon tomorrow of any of the three were claimed by other clubs or if they’ll report to the Amerks.

With five days remaining until opening the night the Buffalo Sabres currently hold 29 players on their roster, five of which are injured and could start the season on injured reserve.

Alexander Nylander, Tage Thompson, Brendan Guhle and Lawrence Pilut are four younger players that currently remain with the Sabres. Nylander and Thompson seem like they’re on track to open the season with the Sabres. While Guhle and Pilut are still questionable, as one or neither could end up on the opening night roster.

We’ll see how the roster continues to shake out over the next few days.
