Report: Sabres to get jersey update next season

The Buffalo Sabres will enter their 2017-18 season with a new GM, a new head coach, and now according to one report, a new-look jersey.

Chris Creamer from sportslogos.net is reporting that 12 teams (13, if you count Las Vegas) will be seeing an update to their jerseys this summer as the NHL moves from Reebok to Adidas.

The teams we were told to expect some changes to are the Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres, Calgary Flames, Colorado Avalanche, Columbus Blue Jackets, Dallas Stars, Edmonton Oilers, Florida Panthers, Minnesota Wild, Nashville Predators, New Jersey Devils, and the Ottawa Senators.

The report says that the changes will be “very minor,” and that no logos will be changed in the update, so don’t expect anything too crazy just yet.

Here’s our list of the things we want to see changed, in order of most likely to least likely:

  1. Get rid of the silver piping
  2. Get rid of the grey armpit stains
  3. For the love of Gilbert GO BACK TO ROYAL BLUE

In his report, Creamer guesses that the silver piping will be out, and that would be the only change. It would be an improvement, but would it be enough to entice you into buying a new jersey?

The real change people should be looking for might not come until 2020 – the team’s 50th anniversary season. If you’re hoping for royal blue, that’s when I’d guess it would happen, but we’ll have to wait and see.

In the meantime, let’s hope for deep discounts on soon-to-be-obsolete jerseys, so you can finally get your hands on that Josh Gorges sweater you’ve always dreamed of.
