Sabres gain one, lose one forward

Just when it was looking like Buffalo were going to have a player or two back from injury in time for the new season, bad news struck again.

Forward Scott Wilson collided with defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen during practice yesterday at the HarborCenter and then had to be helped off the ice unable to put any pressure on the right foot.

The Sabres announced in a press release this afternoon that the forward had undergone surgery to repair an ankle fracture, and that he was expected to miss between eight and ten weeks.

Wilson featured in four of the Sabres’ seven preseason games, picking up one assist against the Blue Jackets in his first game.

With forwards Nicholas Baptiste and Justin Bailey clearing waivers, the Sabres have exactly twelve healthy forwards now and unless Johan Larsson recovers in time, Buffalo will have to call-up a player from Rochester especially since Alexander Nylander has been sent down to the Amerks.

Meanwhile, Conor Sheary is back in training and in line to make his Sabres debut for the season opener against the Boston Bruins.
