The Buffalo Sabres announced today that Jack Eichel as their nominee for the King Clancy Memorial Trophy. This award is given to the player โ€œwho best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community.โ€

All 31 teams select one player from their club to be nominated for the award. The winner for the award is selected by a committee of senior NHL executives, including Gary Bettman and Bill Daly.

The winner will receive a $25,000 donation to benefit a charity or charities of his choice, according to NHL.com.

Eichel only played 21 games this season as the Sabres captain. However, his charity work with Roswell Park has been outstanding not only this year but throughout his entire tenure in Buffalo.

His future in Buffalo may be in the air, but Eichel does deserve recognition for the work that he has done in the community.
